The opportunity to engage with children, young people and their families allows us to enrich thousands of lives with dance across our great state.

Working together to create a winning performance

In March 2019, 11 local Port Hedland dance students took to the stage to open a full-length Gala Performance by the West Australian Ballet, attended by a sold-out audience of 700 guests. Aboriginal Elder Diana Robinson-Brown performed the Welcome to Country.

What made the performance even more special was the fact the young dancers had only auditioned for their roles less than two weeks before the event. They then put in 36 hours of studio rehearsal time over the next week, including 6 hours of Skype rehearsals with teachers in Perth. For many of the dancers, it was their first time on a professional stage, and they worked incredibly hard to perfect their routine.

“The partnership with Roy Hill Community Foundation has been integral to West Australian Ballet expanding its regional reach in the Pilbara. The partnership is founded on shared values and commitment to providing an inspiring platform to build  a dynamic and creative community in Port Hedland.  The opportunity to engage with children, young people and their families allows us to enrich thousands of lives with dance across our great state.” – Jessica Machin – Executive Director, West Australian Ballet

With more programs and events to come in the future, the partnership between the West Australian Ballet and Roy Hill Community Foundation will offer many more stories and positive memories for people throughout the Pilbara community.
