I’ve seen so much change in the students I’ve mentored. They’ve grown to be so much more confident.

We’re helping students to reach their full potential

EdConnect Australia connects at-risk students with volunteers, providing the skills and resources to help students realise their full potential.

The Roy Hill Community Foundation joined forces with EdConnect Australia in 2016 to deliver the Pilbara Mentors program in Port Hedland, connecting intergenerational volunteers with young people in the community. The five schools involved in the program include Hedland Senior High School, Port Hedland Primary School, Cassia Primary School, Baler Primary School and St Cecilia’s Catholic Primary School.

I’ve seen so much change in the students I’ve mentored. They’ve grown to be so much more confident – Kristen Thompson, 2019 Mentor of the Year.

Since the Pilbara Mentors program was established, more than 500 mentoring hours have been logged, delivering a huge number of benefits to local students. Almost 100% of mentors reported an improvement in students’ self esteem and confidence, while 93% reported a reduction in disruptive behaviour.

Our Foundation is proud to support such a life-changing program and to see so many young people within the community given the opportunity to discover new potential and create ongoing positive opportunities for themselves and others.
