As leaders, trailblazers, politicians, activists and social change advocates, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women fought and continue to fight, for justice, equal rights, rights to country, for law and justice, access to education, employment and to maintain and celebrate culture, language, music and art.
The design celebrates the role Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women have played – and continue to play – in the community.
The front of the t-shirt tells a story about two Aboriginal women sitting together by the campfire, and the sides show women gathering and foraging. The red represents the earth and Aboriginal people, and the Aboriginal flag appears on the back of the shirt together with the Torres Strait Island flag.
The blue water on the back of the t-shirt represents Torres Strait Island and the circles depict people’s homes and islands. The storylines weave together to show the coming together of Torres Strait Islander and Aboriginal people and the half circles and dots represent women and their children walking together, beside each other, supporting each other.
