EdConnect and the Roy Hill Community Foundation brought together the volunteer mentors to celebrate their resiliency and commitment to the program in the face of the challenges presented by COVID-19. The St Cecelia Catholic Primary School choir performed to kick off a memorable evening to honour those involved in the program.
The mentors were given hampers and certificates of appreciation to thank them for time and commitment. The most moving moment of the evening was the speeches given by two of the students. They expressed their gratitude to their mentors and how the positive experiences in the program had affected them.
Kay has said volunteers have told her how much they love the mentoring experience and those considering mentoring should not hesitate to get involved with the program. “The need for mentors is greater than ever, especially in these uncertain times,” she says. “The reality is, there are always more students in need than available mentors.”
